Have A Safe Spring Break!

As many families prepare to travel for a well-deserved break from school and work, the Barrington FOP wants to remind everyone of a few key ways to stay safe and carefree during your vacation:

  1. If you leave town, place your house on the Barrington Police Vacation Watchlist. Members of the Barrington Police will periodically check your home for problems. You may also want to place a hold on your mail or have a neighbor or family member retrieve your mail for you.
  2. Use credit cards to pay for gas while traveling. Unfortunately, gas stations are a favorite place for criminals to place skimming devices. Using a debit card to pay for gas potentially gives thieves direct access to your checking account should your information be compromised.
  3. Leave valuables secured in a safe at home. Traveling with valuables is never the best idea. Don't leave valuables in your car, especially if they are visible from the outside. If you must leave something in the car, completely conceal it in a compartment or under a seat.
  4. If you drink, designate a sober driver, or utilize a taxi or rideshare service.
  5. Have fun and relax! The Barrington FOP wishes you and your family a safe and carefree spring break. So enjoy; we'll see you when you get back!
